The Volkswagen beetle is a staple within every car culture in the world. The Beetle is the longest production automobile manufactured to date. Production began in 1938 and ended with the last production unit coming off Volkswagens, Puebla, Mexico production line in 2003.
This 1979 Type 1 Beetle represented the last year the vehicle was available to the North American Market. Bodied by Karman, the body styling for the 79-model year utilized wider running boards, a redesigned front hood, larger fenders, aprons and quarter panels. The suspension also received updated McPherson style strut assemblies as well as redesigned ball joints. Power is delivered through the 091-transaxle propelled by the 1600cc air cooled flat 4-cylinder motor. This engine utilized an updated dual port Bosch Fuel injection System which helped this late production Beetle a potent 48hp with 73ftlbs of torque. The interior consisted of extremely comfortable front seats in vinyl as well as an extremely usable rear bench seat.
